The police chief said an officer was executing a search warrant when the man tried to run the officer over with a car. Then the officer fired his gun at the car.
Police say the male suspect was shot in the chest and was taken to Duke Hospital. He was described as conscious and alert, but is condition is unknown.
The police officer was not injured.
The SBI is handling the case, which is standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings.
