The accident happened just before 1:30 p.m. at Ramsey Street and Summerchase Drive. Police said a Ford Mustang and a 2006 Mazda 3 collided.
Kevin Fields, 23, of Akins Dr. in Fayetteville, was pronounced dead at the scene and the other driver, 22-year-old Adrienne Walker, of Nordica Court in Linden, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Police said their preliminary investigation shows the Mustang driven by Fields was traveling north on Ramsey St. when he lost control of the vehicle and veered into the south-bound travel lane.
