Cardinal Gibbons High completes expansion

RALEIGH

The 104-year-old Catholic school held a dedication ceremony Thursday morning to commemorate the completion of a school expansion and renovation project at a time when such projects are rare.

The dedication began with a Mass and continued with various events and activities, including student-led tours of the building, throughout the day.

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge attended the celebration Thursday at the school which boasts more than 1,200 students.

Officials say enrollment continues to expand, and could double.

The 18-month, multi-phase project, begun in January 2012, has equipped the school with additional classrooms, a new arts and athletics wing, and a new entrance, as well as the latest in technology to help educate new generations of students.
