Woman who stole Fayetteville police car jailed

FAYETTEVILLE

Police arrested 21-year-old Ayana Taylor Friday. She's now in jail under a $36,000 bond.

The situation began when a Fayetteville police officer responded to a call of a suspicious person with a weapon on Campground Church Road near Nix Road.

Once the officer arrived, he found Taylor armed with a hammer. During attempts to end the situation, the officer fired a Taser at Taylor which did not subdue her.

Video of the incident given to ABC11 by a witness shows Taylor on the ground with the officer and an apparent bystander on top of her, but she was able to get up and climb into the driver's seat of the officer's patrol car.

Taylor was captured after she crashed the stolen police cruiser into four other cars during a chase on Morganton and Skibo Road. She's been charged with assault on a government official with a deadly weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, and other charges.

Taylor's father says he told police his daughter was schizophrenic and delusional.

She was under psychiatric care at a local hospital until her arrest Friday.

No one was injured in the crash.
