North Carolina state Senator Phil Berger won't challenge Kay Hagan

RALEIGH, N.C.

There had been widespread speculation Berger - currently North Carolina Senate President - would run against Hagan. He said Monday that he will seek reelection to the North Carolina Senate instead.

"...after careful consideration and consultation with family, friends and supporters, I have decided now is not the time for me to undertake such a campaign," said Berger in a statement.

Berger said he feels he can do the most good for the state of North Carolina in the state senate representing Guilford and Rockingham counties.
