The driver has been identified as 22-year-old Kaleb Rierson.
According to first responders, the car ran off Red Hill Road, went down a small embankment, and slammed into a tree.
Rierson was the only person in the car and troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The N.C. Highway Patrol told ABC11 speed was a factor in the crash. They are awaiting a Medical Examiner's report on whether alcohol may have also played a role.
