Sources tell ABC11 the big break in a series of robberies at homes around Raleigh and Wake County came when the suspect's wife called 911.

In a recording of the call obtained by ABC11, a woman tells an operator she has information about "the man that has been doing the women robberies."

Asked if the person she's talking about is home, she replies: "He's supposed to be at work, but I don't know if he's there because, lately, he's been acting really weird and I don't know if he even has a job anymore."

The operator asks if she's sure the man is the robber.

"I suspect it," the woman responds. "There's evidence all over the house. I just can't find the damn gun."

Walter Kevin Johnson, 28, was arrested after police stopped his vehicle on Glenwood Avenue near Pleasant Valley Road around 1 p.m. Friday.

He's charged in eight separate robberies. Many of the alleged victims were held up at gunpoint as they returned to their homes. Some were forced to drive to ATMs to withdraw cash.

Johnson remains in the Wake County jail under a $3.5 million bond.
