Authorities said an investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from an altercation on the back porch of a home.

The homeowner of the house told ABC11 that the victim was his friend and had come to his house with a knife and was acting intoxicated or crazy.

Frank Archuleta said 57-year-old Harold Brigham threatened other people at his house, so he tried to get him to leave or calm down.

Archuleta said he ended up having to shoot his friend and was very upset about the incident.

Brigham was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Archuleta was interviewed by police, but has not been charged.
