The Apex Police Department said the 4.5 inch pipe was leaking underground. Gas was shut off to the line around 12:05 p.m. and permanent repairs were being made.
The roughly 90 children at Bright Horizons were moved to the Eva Perry Library. All other businesses on Shepard's Vineyard Way were temporarily closed.
