North Carolina lawmaker charged in state tax case is out of jail

RALEIGH

Democratic Rep. Deborah McManus, 56, of Siler City, was charged Wednesday with three counts of embezzlement of state property. She resigned soon after.

Arrest warrants allege McManus helped a Carolina Family Practice misappropriate more than $47,000 in state withholding tax from Jan. 2011 through July 2013.

McManus is now out of jail. Her case was continued until Jan. 2.
