Rash of shootings in Sanford have community on edge

SANFORD, N.C.

A total of three young men were killed, and police aren't saying much about the incidents.

All the shootings happened in the City of Sanford within a ten minute drive of each other.

It appears that two of the shootings were murders and the third may have been an accident.

In one shooting over the weekend, family members say Stacey Lamont Morrison was in the wrong place at the wrong time at a party when violence broke out. Morrison, they say, was shot in the stomach.

Sunday night, 30-year-old Travis Richardson was shot while inside his home. Sources told ABC11 it was a targeted shooting.

On Wednesday, a 20 year old was shot while at this home on Harrington Street, but police say it could have been an accident.

Now, Morrison's cousin says the violence needs to stop.

"All this violence needs to stop that's inside this city," said Ski Fox. "I urge all these young people to put a book in your hand instead of a gun."

The newly elected mayor of Sanford says violence isn't typical of his city. He urges anyone with information on the shootings to call police.
