Roughly 3,200 Fort Bragg soldiers will be deployed to Afghanistan early next year, according to an announcement from the Department of Defense.

The 1st Brigade combat team from the 82nd Airborne Division is one of five units that will take part in an upcoming rotation of forces operating in Afghanistan. The units will begin their rotations Spring 2014.

The combat team from Fort Bragg is the largest unit to be deployed. They make up over one-third of the roughly 8,300 troops that will perform in the operation.

The other deploying units will come from Fort Hood, Texas, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., and Ansbach, Germany.
