Crawleigh work resume following holidays on I-440, I-40

RALEIGH

It will start around 11 p.m. Friday night between the I-40/I-440 split and the Poole Road exit.

Crews will be swapping out orange barrels for concrete jersey barriers. They will make those replacements through early Saturday and again early Sunday.

They will also be putting in a barrier along the outside shoulder at the I-40 eastbound ramp to protect power poles in the area.

This is only phase one of the Crawleigh construction project. The DOT is rebuilding an 11.5 mile stretch of highway because the road is crumbling.

The next step will depend on the weather on Sunday and Monday nights because the work requires a dry roadway and temperature in the 40s. Crews plan to extend the lane closures the final mile on the westbound side from the Poole Road exit to the U.S. 64/264 exit.

Once that is completed, the contractor will resume the placement of the concrete barriers the entire length of the work zone.
