The extreme weather is confusing especially for folks who switched out their closets. You could be going from scarves to sundresses in this seesaw weather system.
"I have to say this winter has been mercurial," said Raleigh resident Melissa Haidet.
The week that started like this will end in an extremely different way. It was just days ago the triangle was in a deep freeze. Folks were bundled up trying to escape the frigid arctic temperatures.
"It was extremely brutal -- like I didn't even want to leave the building to get anything to eat during lunch," said Raleigh resident Priscilla Awkard. "When it's time to go home you race straight to your car, turn it on and just hope that it gets really warm really quick."
There was single digit weather because of the polar vortex.
"The last time we had an air mass comparable to the one we had a few days ago was 1994," said ABC11 Chief Meteorologist Chris Hohmann.
After the record low, the weather could swing into the seventies.
"It had been a while since we have gone from such one extreme -- 9 up to 70," said Hohmann. "A 60 plus degree rise in just a matter of days is just uncommon."
It is uncommon but folks are thrilled.
"I'm excited to see the warm weather come back," said Awkard.
Even if the warm temps on tap are temporary, people are planning to soak in as much sun and warmth as they possible can this weekend.
"It's amazing," said Haidet. "I'm from Ohio, so having 70 degree weather anytime is nice."
