Multiple crashes reported on I-95 in Johnston County near I-40

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C.

Troopers say four separate crashes were responsible for the back-ups.

The first crash, involving three vehicles, happened in the northbound lanes, near mile marker 84. ABC11 was told at least one person was seriously injured in the wreck.

The next crash took place a few miles to the south, at the Interstate 40 interchange, because of slowdowns from the first crash.

The third accident in the northbound lanes, near mile marker 79, involved four vehicles, including an overturned pick-up truck.

Troopers blamed the final crash, in the southbound lanes, on onlookers.

The Interstate 40 interchange was closed to traffic at one point. All lanes of Interstate 95 in Johnston County were back open by 5:30 p.m.

There is no word yet on the conditions of any of the victims or if any charges were filed.
