A small fire forced the evacuation of the main U.S. Postal sorting office in Raleigh early Monday.

Officials said it appeared there was some type of reaction in a package - possibly from a battery or some type of chemical.

The fire started in an area where packages are sorted. Witnesses said they heard a small pop before the blaze started. It was quickly extinguished.

As of 5 a.m., workers were back on the job at the building on Floretta Place.
