North Carolina native Kellie Pickler appears on "Nashville" in support of USO

RALEIGH

ABC11 is a proud supporter of the USO and met with the president of the USO of North Carolina to talk about why this is such an exciting episode for troops in our state.

On Wednesday's episode, Rayna James organized a USO charity concert at the military base when she finds out Luke Wheeler was injured while performing for the troops in Afghanistan. That is when Pickler will make her guest appearance.

Pickler has done seven USO tours, performing for troops stationed overseas.

Just last year, the USO of North Carolina honored her with its "Heart for the Warrior" award, and Pickler was deeply moved.

"I don't feel that I deserve to share this stage with the heroes that are being honored tonight...but I am so honored to be here and I'm so blessed to have such a beautiful friendship with the people who make up the USO," she said.

ABC11 showed clips of Wednesday's episode to North Carolina's USO President John Falkenbury.

"This is all USO...it's phenomenal. She's beautiful inside and out," said Falkenbury.

"Kellie is very special to us in North Carolina because she's a North Carolina girl," he said. "She's genuine. She genuinely cares about the men and women in uniform."

Pickler herself says, "It was so much fun to be on this particular episode of 'Nashville' since it was filmed at Ft. Campbell, and I got to perform in front of our military and their families. I can't wait to see the finished episode and hope they ask me to come back and do another one!"

"Great Carolina girl...When we see people give of their time and their talents to really lift the spirits of American military, which we say makes every moment count. And that's what she does," Falkenbury said.
