Raleigh high school student killed in stabbing identified by family; Classes resume Thursday
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The 15-year-old student who was killed in a stabbing at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School has been identified by his mother.
Delvin Ferrell was one of two students stabbed on Monday at the school, according to his mother. The other student was taken to a local hospital but is expected to survive.
A 14-year-old has been charged with murder in the case.
The school was put on lockdown until the end of the school day as police investigated on campus.
Classes will resume on Thursday, school officials said. Counselors will be made available to students and staff at the school when classes resume.
"We are grateful for the patience and support you have shown as we have worked together to prepare for our students' return to campus tomorrow," school officials wrote in a note to parents.
There will be additional law enforcement and security personnel on campus Thursday.
Officials added that all students involved in Monday's fight "have been disciplined in accordance with WCPSS policies."
The school noted that it will hold a family and community forum on Dec. 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to provide people a space to ask questions or share concerns. Superintendent Robert Taylor, Board of Education member Tara Waters, and Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson plan to be in attendance.
