Military honored at US Open at Pinehurst
PINEHURST, N.C. (WTVD) -- A salute to the military was held Wednesday evening at the U.S. Open in Pinehurst.
The event included a message from Gov. Pat McCrory as well as a performance by the 82nd Airborne All-American chorus.
Organizers wanted their military neighbors to be involved in the U.S. Open experience, and they wanted to say thank you to the troops for their service.
Gov. McCrory says North Carolina is the most military friendly state in the country.
"We want to help them with any issue they are dealing with," said McCrory. "We want to help their families, and more than anything, we want to help them get a job."
"We have gotten handshakes, and 'thank you for your services.' People are glad to take the flags. It's actually been really, really nice here," said Staff Sgt. Brantley Butler, who is stationed at Fort Bragg.
"It's a good bearing on what we do. People actually do appreciate what we do," said Pfc. Aaron Marion, who is stationed at Ft. Bragg.
"So, every day at Fort Bragg isn't the same as coming out with the people. It feels pretty good."
Tournament play at the U.S. Open begins Thursday morning.
