Man extradited to Fayetteville, charged with rape of 13-year-old

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Authorities said a man was extradited back to Fayetteville by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office on Sunday after being charged with raping and kidnapping a 13-year-old girl in 2012.

On Jan. 27, officials said they learned the suspect, Joel Sandoval, 25, was in Tampa, Florida. He was arrested that day.

Sandoval was charged with first degree statutory rape and kidnapping for an incident which happened on May 12, 2012 in the 4200 block of Ramsey Street, according to authorities. Officials say he knew the victim and fled after the assault.

He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
