Save time and money with telemedicine
Amber Rupinta shows us how telemedicine can help you save time and money

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- At HQ Raleigh dozens of start ups and entrepreneurs work out of a shared workspace. And, the latest amenity being offered is a partnership with RelyMD, as the official telemedicine provider for HQ Raleigh businesses.

"We help to basically negotiate the bulk discount," explained HQ Raleigh Co-Founder Jason Widen.

"With start-ups, the last thing you're worried about is health insurance," Widen said.

"I remember, I went five years without any sort of health insurance, so having a service like this that is cost effective and quick and easy is a huge benefit, especially to young aspiring entrepreneurs."

For the HQ Raleigh businesses, an average cost of a telemedicine visit with RelyMD for members and their dependents will average about $10, for any individual in the state of North Carolina who uses the service, the average cost of a visit is about $50, which can save compared to emergency room co-pays which can run several hundred dollars.

RelyMD was started by a group of about 90 local emergency physicians with Wake Emergency Physicians and virtual visits began in January, 2015. The goal is to cut down on non-emergency room or urgent care visits by giving patients an alternative available 24/7 with an average wait time of 10 minutes.

"The target for RelyMD is non-emergent visits that people would say,'I need to go to urgent care and be seen or I need to see my doctor for something that's not an emergency,' explained RelyMD Dr. Evan Pushchak. "We're able to do a lot with the video camera, look at peoples throats, and listening to all their symptoms. It's a wonderful service because it's available 24/7 and on the weekends when doctors offices aren't open, when urgent care might be closed. If you have a credit card you're able to use our service and log in and yes its a fraction of the cost of an emergency room visit. It's a fraction of the cost of an urgent care visit."

Anyone in North Carolina can create an account online or through the RelyMD app to see a doctor for minor ailments such as skin or sinus infections. Payment is made by credit, debit, or HSA card. Prescriptions for narcotics, sleep aids, or sexual dysfunction are not prescribed through RelyMD.
