DURHAM (WTVD) -- When you file a complaint, you expect your problem to be addressed. This was not the case for one local homeowner who says she's been waiting nearly a year for action.

Pearl Kloster noticed a big tree had grown over her garage.

"It's definitely hanging at least 50 percent of my garage, all I'm asking is they trim it back," Kloster said.

The tree isn't on her property, instead a neighboring Durham Elementary School.

"If it were to come down, my garage would be gone," Kloster said.

Last September, Kloster said she contacted the school about cutting the tree back.

"She reported my complaint and nothing happened," she said.

So Kloster called the superintendent's office.

"They keep saying they are coming out, they've come out and look at it and nothing is done," Kloster said. "I didn't know who to go to but Troubleshooter. I see you on the TV solving problems so I figured I'd give you a try."

Once I got in touch with a rep from Durham Public Schools, there was a crew at her house.

"There was a guy in each tree," she said. "It's amazing, there's one tree totally gone."

Besides trimming back the tree that hangs over Kloster's property, the crew also trimmed branches off several more trees that went into Kloster's neighbor's yard.

Kloster couldn't be happier.

"I wouldn't have gotten it done without (your help), it took me a year, my mistake was not calling you before," she said.

If you find yourself in this situation, the best advice is to alert the property owner in writing about the problem and your concerns. That way it if it does cause damage to your property, you have proof you warned them.
