UNC Board of Governors requests Cooper's help on HB2 legal battle
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- The UNC Board of Governors wants the attorney general to defend them against the DOJ's lawsuit over House Bill Two. But, Attorney General Roy Cooper has publicly said he will not defend HB2.
The Board of Governors says the AG is required by law to handle litigation for the board.

The Board just hired two private D.C. Law firms to handle the DOJ's lawsuit and another law suit with the ACLU.
Friday, the Board sent Attorney General Roy Cooper a letter requesting that he reconsider his decision. The letter states the University system will suffer from unexpected and significant legal costs as a result of his decision.
The BOG is asking Cooper to set aside money in his budget to pay the Board's legal fees.
"If he refuses to do that, we are simply asking that his office be taxed the cost of our private litigation," said Board member Tom Goolsby. "It should not come out of the money of our students and out of our funds period."
The Board agreed on a resolution to give Cooper 60 days to respond to Friday's letter. If he refuses, the Board will ask the General Assembly to remove funds from his budget to cover the costs.
ABC11 reached out to Cooper's office but have not yet received a response.
