Early Friday morning the Harnett County Sheriff's Office received a call that the remains of a baby were buried in the back yard of a home on Fairgrounds Road. Dunn Police officers were also called to investigate at the scene.
When authorities arrived the couple living in the home showed officers the shallow grave marked with a cross. Officials unearthed the remains of a fetus believed to be between 12- and 20-weeks-old. Officials say the woman at the home had a miscarriage on Wednesday and was driven to Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital for examination.
The remains of the baby found in the back yard were sent to the Medical Examiner's Office.
Officials have not released the names of the couple because they have not been charged with any crime at this time.
