According to the /*Nash County Sheriff's Office*/, it received information that a child had been taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital suffering from a skull fracture and swelling on the brain, along with other injuries consistent with child abuse.
Deputies questioned the the child's mother, Latonya Smith, and they say she admitted to abusing Mikayla Manning, resulting in the child's injuries.
Smith is charged with /*first-degree murder*/ and is being held without murder.
