Several injured in interstate accident

June 10, 2008 9:10:50 PM PDT
One suburban struck another suburban traveling in the eastbound lanes of I-40 near Fayetteville Road.

The struck suburban hit the concrete divider separating eastbound from westbound lanes, then flipped over the divider and landed on its hood in the westbound lanes.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Duke Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Multiple people were in the other vehicle that struck the suburban. They went to UNC Hospital.

There was also a seeing eye dog in that vehicle --the dog was okay.

Authorities tell Eyewitness News alcohol maybe a factor in the accident.

Traffic on both sides of I-40 experienced significant slowdowns for about two hours.
