Suspects arrested for numerous robberies

RALEIGH At approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday, two suspects wearing bandanas over their faces entered the Tienda Todo Guerrerense on S. Saunders Street and committed an armed robbery. The suspects fled in a car and the vehicle's description was broadcast to Raleigh Police Department officers.

A short time later, RPD officers B.S. Neighbors and R.A. Copersito were patrolling in the vicinity of Crabtree Boulevard and Sommerset Road when they observed a car matching the description of the suspects' vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle, David Michael Wesley, 18, of Knightdale, was taken into custody.

Two additional suspects, Samuel Keith Kerr II, 21, and Raphael Davonne Powell, 24, both of Raleigh, were later located in the 400 block of E. Cabarrus Street by Lt. C.A. Carrigan and were placed in custody.

The three suspects were charged in connection with the following 2008 crimes and were transported to the Wake County Jail.

  • In the March 30 armed robbery of the Pick-Up Mart at 825 W. Morgan St., Kerr was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.


  • In the April 3 armed robbery of College Beverage at 3006 Hillsborough St., Kerr was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.


  • In the June 14 armed robbery of Sophie's Deli at 3130 Integrity Dr., Kerr and Wesley were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.


  • In the June 23 armed robbery of M&S Grocery at 620 W. Morgan St., Kerr was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.


  • In the July 5 armed robbery of the Rite Aid pharmacy at 501 Woodburn Rd., Kerr and Wesley were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.


  • In the July 6 armed robbery of Raleigh Beverage at 5 Glenwood Ave., Kerr and Wesley were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.


  • In the July 7 armed robbery of the Stop 1 Mart at 709 W. Peace St., Kerr, Wesley and Powell were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Powell was also charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.


  • In the July 8 armed robbery of the Lighthouse Mart at 1916 Bernard St., Kerr and Wesley were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.


  • The July 9 armed robbery of Tienda Todo Guerrerense at 1514 S. Saunders St., Kerr, Wesley and Powell were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Kerr and Powell were also charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.


In addition, Wesley is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and with driving without a license.

Investigations in the cases and activities of the suspects remain underway.
