Teen charged with raping woman

CARTHAGE, N.C. On Dec. 31, the sheriff's office said it received a report of a rape and a assault in the Carolina Lakes sub-division.

A 37-year-old woman was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

Jordan Nathaniel Mitchell, 17, of Carthage is charged with second-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping and assault by strangulation.

Mitchell is being held under a $200,000 bond and his first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 12.
