Troopers say 17-year-old Timothy Cameron, Jr. of Broadway was driving the pickup truck. He was traveling northbound, near his home on Cool Springs Road when he lost control of the vehicle.
He and his passenger, 19-year-old Brittany Wilson, also of Broadway, were ejected from the vehicle as it overturned several times.
The Highway Patrol says Cameron lost control in a curve and ran off the right of the road. Neither Cameron nor Wilson was wearing a seatbelt.
Family members told Eyewitness News the teens had been dating.
A relative and friend of the teens says young driver need to slow down behind the wheel.
"Just slow down," exclaimed Millie Thomas, a friend of both families. "And young people slow down. You got your whole life in front of you, just slow down, and really do stop and smell the roses so you will be bale to smell them for a long time because we have lost two preciouss people."
Cameron was a current student at West Harnett High School and Wilson was a 2008 graduate.
Faculty at the school has been notified and they will have a crisis team on campus Friday.
The wreck is Harnett County's first fatal crash of the year.
