Four killed in interstate accident

ROBESON COUNTY The North Carolina State Highway Patrol tells Eyewitness News that three women from New Jersey were killed when the car they were traveling in was hit head-on.

The accident happened on Interstate 95 just after 4 p.m. near mile marker 7 in the south bound lanes.

Troopers say a car headed north bound was speeding and lost control, crossed the median and struck the women's car that was travelling south bound. They say the women were all wearing their seatbelts.

An unidentified man driving the vehicle that crossed the median was flown to Chapel Hill Hospital, where he later died.

Troopers say that there are no barriers or guide wires in the median, since it is a very wide median.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims. The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
