Deputy charged with DWI

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has charged a school resource officer with driving under the influence.

Wayne County Deputy Alejandro Jones, 40, was arrested Saturday night. Troopers charged him with DWI and speeding. He has a court date in May.

Jones was a school resource officer at Charles B. Aycock High School in Pikeville.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said Jones resigned after his arrest.
