Car slams into school bus

A car driver and a passenger were hurt Friday afternoon when their vehicle slammed into the back of a school bus.

It happened around 2:50 p.m. near Wiggins Crossroad in southern Edgecombe County.

According to Principal John Westberg of SouthWest Edgecombe High School, bus number 286 had just left the school to begin the afternoon route with approximately 40 students on board.

The back window and bumper of the bus were damaged, but there were no injuries reported for students on the bus or the driver.

The car has extensive front end damage. There's no word yet on the condition of the two people inside or their identities.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
