Wilson Police responded to a disturbance Monday at a Little League baseball tournament in Wilson.

Officials report that 43-year-old Raleigh resident Gary Merritt, father of a player on the Garner All Stars Little League baseball team, arrived at the tournament after his son had played.

After the game, Merritt interrupted a team meeting lead by Coach Charles Edwards and began yelling and cursing at him.

Two bystanders came between the two as fight broke out, officials report.

Officers escorted the involved parties to the Magistrates office.

After all the parties had given their testimony, the Magistrate found probable cause to charge Merritt with assault, communicating threats and damage to personal property.

Merritt was placed in the Wilson County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond. His next court date is July 13.
