North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agents swooped in on a high stakes poker game and made eight arrests Thursday.

Agents and Mount Olive police say they made the raid after getting tips about the game at an address in Seven Springs.

Arrested at 2169 Pine View Cemetery Road were Kay D. Smith, Harold Newcomb, Frankie S. Walker, Edward E. Walters, Prentice J. Newsome, John W. Smith, Ernest L. Vinson and Robert H. Davenport, Jr.

"After receiving multiple complaints from members of the public regarding the illegal games ALE agents promptly investigated," said John Ledford, director of Alcohol Law Enforcement. "High stakes card games like this one are illegal in the state, and I commend our agents and officers with the Mt. Olive Police Department for taking action."

Agents seized $23,700 in cash and a poker table, cards and chips.
