Teen dies after crash with school bus

WAKE COUNTY It happened on Falls of Neuse Road at Harps Mill Road just before 5 p.m., when school bus number 745 collided with the car. A third vehicle, a Honda, was also involved.

Raleigh Police Department Director of Public Affairs Jim Sughrue says the teen died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck. He says two additional male passengers were also in the car, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old, and were transported to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released the names of the victims or said who was driving the car.

Michael Evans with the Wake County Public School System says no children were on the bus when the accident happened. The driver of the bus was not injured.

Alex Lando says his parents were in the the Honda and stopped at a red light when all of a sudden, "they saw the bus very quickly coming towards their car and the bus hit their hood."

"That car was smashed so badly, that's what they told me, that it was clear that not everything is good there," Lando said.

Lando's parents appeared to be shaken, but unharmed.

The fatal wreck stalled traffic for hours. Authorities had to set up a detour on Newton Road as they cleared the scene.

It is unclear at this time how the crash happened, but the wreck investigation remains underway.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw the collision happen or saw the involved vehicles immediately prior to the crash, to call officials at (919) 996-3350.
