Lamonte Edward Smith, 24, of Raleigh, was taken into custody Friday morning by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force with assistance from the Raleigh Police Department.
Smith was wanted for probation violation, misdemeanor child abuse, driving while license revoked, and numerous other charges.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said it stopped Smith in Wendell April 6 for driving with an expired registration. During the traffic stop, Smith allegedly fled from the scene, leaving a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl in the back seat. Neither child was harmed.
Officers searched the area, but weren't able to find Smith.
After a month on the run, Marshals said they found Smith Friday in an apartment on Old Wake Forest Road in Raleigh and arrested him without incident.
