Authorities say drivers in the area reported seeing the woman and stopped to see if they could help her.
Emergency crews were called to the scene and transported the victim to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The woman has undergone emergency surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
Authorities have not released any information about a possible suspect in the case.
