Charles was killed Monday when the charter bus he was driving wrecked on I-40. The cause of the crash has not been determined.
Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wake Chapel Church at 3805 Tar Heel Club Road in Raleigh. The funeral service will follow the visitation.
The Lorenzo Charles Memorial Fund has been set up to assist Charles' family. You can make a donation at the Wachovia Bank branch at 10941 Forest Pines Driver in Raleigh.
The Charles family says it is thankful for all that everyone in the community has done for them.
Police say they are looking for witnesses to Monday's crash to assist them in the investigation.
Police filed a report Wednesday about the wreck, saying the bus ran off the road for an unknown reason, traveled through a grass shoulder, across an on-ramp and into a wooded area. The report says the bus then struck several trees and went back across the road before stopping.
Charles is remembered for his game-winning dunk in the 1983 NCAA championship game, in which the Wolfpack defeated Houston.Classifieds | Report A Typo |
