Raleigh man drowns in Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. John Ira Moore, 68, was pulled from the water just before 4:00 p.m., after someone noticed him floating on his back.

Witnesses say rescue crews performed CPR on the beach, until an ambulance arrived.

Moore was later pronounced dead at Carteret General Hospital.

Officials say rip currents could have been a factor in the drowning.
