Raleigh residents can now report crime online

RALEIGH

The Raleigh Police Department unveiled a new service on its website Tuesday that lets people report six types on non-emergency crimes.

Damage to property, damage to vehicles, harassing phone calls, lost property, stolen property, and thefts from vehicles are all eligible.

RPD said the new system will improve efficiency by freeing up officers to work on other law enforcement duties besides taking reports. It will also allow people to print out police reports for insurance claims faster.

The department said data about crimes reported online will be evaluated in the same way as reports taken by officers, so crime analysts will continue to be able to spot patterns or trends.
