According to PSNC Energy, a contractor, who hit a line while working on Western Boulevard, caused the leak.
One nearby business had to be evacuated.
Officials also had to block traffic to Western Boulevard between Blue Ridge Road and Powell Drive, while crews worked to repair the problem.
Just after noon, Western Boulevard was reopened to traffic.
