Dalton is a familiar face in state politics. He has served six terms in the North Carolina Senate and he's finishing up his first term as lieutenant governor.
Education seems to be his main focus but he said he is prepared to tackle the state's economic problems.
"I said it's like Sullenberger who landed that plane on the Hudson. He had nothing to do with the geese hitting the right engine, or the geese hitting the left engine. It didn't matter. It's his crisis, he has to put the plane down safely," said Dalton. "That's what we have to do in North Carolina. We may not have created this crisis, but we have to work through it and we have to worth through it together, getting beyond our ideology and that's how I want to lead."
Dalton already has the support of some of the state's biggest Democratic hitters and deepest pockets. A recent fundraiser hosted by SAS founder and CEO Jim Goodnight put more than $300,000 in Dalton's campaign coffers.
