Suspects in Raleigh robbery attempt arrested

RALEIGH

It all started when police say the two men tried to rob a man outside his home at gunpoint.

Police say 27-year-old Kenneth Gibson and 41-year-old James Pauling approached a man outside his home in the 8800 block of Valentine Court and demanded money.

"I walked into my garage, and opened my garage door. And there were two gentlemen by the car in the driveway and one came over holding a gun," said the victim to 911. "[They] told me to take my hands out of my pocket. Said he needed $60,000. I told him I didn't have $60,000."

The victim got away safely, and the two suspects ran off.

Pauling was caught quickly, but police say Gibson stole an SUV from the driveway of a nearby home. Gibson was arrested after he later ditched the vehicle off Newton Road.

Pauling and Gibson, both of Raleigh, were charged with armed robbery and with conspiracy to commit armed robbery. In addition, Gibson was charged with breaking and entering and with larceny of a motor vehicle.
