Durham police continued their search Tuesday for a suspect who fled from an accident scene that left one person dead and another critically injured.

Around 1:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a collision involving three vehicles at Driver Street and Angier Avenue.

Police said a 2012 black Ford Edge traveling northbound on Driver Street struck a vehicle traveling eastbound on Angier Avenue. The impact caused the second vehicle to collide into a third vehicle that was traveling westbound on Angier Avenue.

Police said the driver of the Ford Edge fled on foot from the scene. He is described as black male in his early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall and 145 to 160 pounds. He had a light to medium complexion and was wearing his hair in dreadlocks. Police say he may frequent the Walltown area.

On Tuesday, police said the driver of the Cadillac, 76-year-old Weldon Lewis Williams, of Durham, died at Duke University hospital. The driver of the Suzuki remained in critical condition.

Anyone with information on the driver is asked to call Investigator Cox with the Durham Police Department's Traffic Services Unit at (919) 560-4935, ext. 29409 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 683-1200.
