A Fayetteville pastor whose Sunday sermon about Amendment One made national headlines has issued an apology.

Berean Baptist Church Pastor Sean Harris told ABC11 he was just joking when he told parents to "punch their sons" if they showed effeminate tendencies.

Wednesday evening, Harris issued an audio retraction and apology on the church's website.

That retraction read, in part, "I apologize to anyone I have unintentionally offended. I did not say anything to intentionally offend anyone in the LGBT community. My intent was to communicate the truth of the Word of God concerning marriage. My words were not scripted. It is unfortunate I was not more careful and deliberate."

Harris went on to say he does not apologize for the manner in which he emphasized the importance of one man and one woman getting married and staying married.
