Authorities have made an arrest in the death of Courtney Speight.

The 23-year-old's body was found in a creek Wednesday morning after vanishing Aug. 11. Officers also found her car Wednesday about two miles from the creek.

Wilson police have arrested Speight's 45-year-old ex-boyfriend Donald Davis.

Speight's family told ABC11 she was on her way to see Davis after reading a disturbing Facebook message.

Davis is charged with one count of first-degree murder and is being held without bail. It is unclear if he will face any additional charges.

ABC11 spoke to Speight's cousin, Latonga McMillian. She said the family found out Thursday that Speight had a life insurance policy through her employer. At some point, she changed the policy and made Davis the sole beneficiary.

The family did not know if Davis was aware of this, but they said he was having financial problems and was behind on his mortgage and car payments.
