The city's largest problem is a massive sinkhole on Franklin Street, and city officials told ABC11 they do not have the money to fix it.
On Carolina Avenue, most of the homes were filled with a couple feet of water during the height of the storms. Now debris lines the streets and the cleanup is underway.
Residents told ABC11 many people in the neighborhood do not have flood insurance, and they said they were told they wouldn't need it. A letter from the city told residents there was a new storm sewer system in place and that the area was no longer considered a flood plain.
"$4,000 it's going to cost out of my pocket because my A/C flooded because I don't have flood insurance, because the city said you didn't need it," resident Timmy Lewis said.
City officials told ABC11 they do not know about the history in that part of town.
Chaloner Middle School was closed Monday, on what was supposed to be the first day of school. Officials said it will reopen Tuesday.
