Pedestrian killed in Durham

A pedestrian was killed Monday evening while attempting to cross Guess Road in Durham.

The incident happened in the 2900 block of Guess Rd., just south of Carver Street, around 6 p.m.

Police said Kent Hayes, 61, of Durham, was crossing the street when he was struck by a pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Hayes was wearing dark clothing and there is no indication excessive speed or alcohol is involved.

No charges have been filed, but police said the incident remains under investigation.
