Fayetteville's Strickland Bridge Road reopens

FAYETTEVILLE

The Department of Transportation says it used multiple work crews to fix Strickland Bridge Road over Little Rockfish Creek faster than originally planned.

"We listened to the community who told us they wanted this project completed as quickly as possible and that's exactly what we did," said NCDOT Division Construction Engineer Tracey Pittman. "We're proud to have worked closely with the contractor to open the new bridge nearly a month ahead of the Sept. 1 deadline."

The bridge was closed in March, so crews could begin replacing the 62-year-old structure with a more modern one.

While the road has reopened, there is still more work to finish. The whole project is expected to be completed by February 2014.
