Police said Danielle Hayes had a concealed carry permit, and had a pistol in her purse inside the store. Her two-year-old child apparently reached inside her purse and when she went to get his hand out of her purse, the gun went off.

Hayes was shot in the hand. She was taken to WakeMed where her condition was not available.

A witness, who came to the Hayes' aid, told ABC11 she was shopping for school supplies for her kids when she heard the bang and a woman's cry for help.

The witness says she ran to the front of the store where it happened, and she along with an employee held pressure to Hayes' wound.

The store shut down and did not reopen Thursday evening.

Officers originally said they would charged Hayes with failing to secure a firearm from a minor. Friday afternoon, however, the police department announced it will not file any charges against Hayes.
